But He knows the way that I take;
when He has tested me, I will come forth
as gold. - Job 23:10
Coulee Christian
School Cross Examination is proud to
present our production of A
Declaration for My King, a play
written by a group of our students.
The drama is based on the story of Job.
It takes place in the mid 1980s with
flashback scenes in the Great Depression
era. The main character, Veronica
"Ronnie" Hamill, is a somewhat
rebellious teenager who loves art.
Her father recently lost his job, so her
mother is working overtime to make up
for finances. Unfortunately,
Ronnie is getting lost in all of it.
She truly believes that she has become
invisible - in her family, at school,
and life in general - and that the only
way people will see her is through the
art she creates.
Ronnie starts
falling behind in her schoolwork - most
notably, a history assignment to
interview a senior citizen. Her
teacher, Mr. Gallagher, arranges for
Ronnie to interview a man named Charles
Stockley, who is a resident of a local
nursing home. Charlie was the
president of a reputable bank and his
family was greatly affected by the stock
market crash of 1929. Through the
interview, Charlie shares his story with
Ronnie - how God blessed his lfie, how
he trusted God when things got
difficult, and how God used the
difficult situations to take him down a
different path.
Ronnie is
affected by the story she hears.
She is amazed that someone can go from
being so successful and happy to being
someone who has lost virtually
everything - yet unwaveringly maintains
his trust in God. She starts
asking questions about faith and
realizes that, even though she sees
herself as being invisible, God sees her
as His precious child, His daughter.
Ronnie gives her life to Christ, and her
life becomes a declaration for her
King.
