Computer Science Courses
The
goal of the Computer Science courses is
to equip students for life in a rapidly
changing technological world.
Course structures can take students from
knowing the basics of computer operation
all the way through professional
document processing and advanced web
design.
Students
are required to complete one (1) credit
in Computer Science for graduation.
Computer Applications

This
project-based class teaches the students
skills that will allow them to create
professional computer documents and
publications in a real-world business
setting and to use several different
applications in combination to finish a
complex task. Examples of programs
used include:

Media
Length:

Prerequisites: None

The
primary project for this course is the
school's yearbook. Students will
use programs such as GIMP, Adobe
Illustrator, and Microsoft Publisher to
design professional page layouts.
Discussion topics will also include
aspects of journalism, such as
interviewing, photography, desktop
publishing, advertising, and more.
Participants
in this course will occasionally be
asked to conduct interviews after
school, attend events, take photographs,
and more.

Introduction
to Computer Programming
Length:

Grade: 9-12
Prerequisites: None
Credit: 0.5
This
course is recommended for students
interested in career paths such as
computer programming or
engineering. Students will be
introduced to object-oriented
programming languages, such as C++, C♯,
and JavaBASIC.

Introduction
to Computer-Assisted Design
Length:
Semester
Grade: 10-12
Prerequisites: Geometry
(or concurrent)
Credit: 0.5
This
course is recommended for students
interested in pursuing a career as a
surveyor, manufacturers, or at an
architecture firm. The purpose of
this class is to familiarize students
with 2-D and 3-D design, using computer
software tools such as the Blender
program and others. Students will
be visited by guest speakers and will
also have the opportunity to visit local
design companies.
